Roadhaven Tennis Club
The Roadhaven Tennis Club has provided league play with other Arizona Parks for the past 30 years. The club has taught thousands of retired seniors how to play and re-learn to play doubles tennis.
The tennis club attracts active residents who want to achieve an active and social lifestyle. The club also attracts social members who have heard that the Tennis Club have the best parties. Both people are correct, but we attempt to attract the party animals first as anyone can be taught to play tennis, but creating an active party person takes much longer.[grin]
The club emphasizes open membership and encourages beginners. Beginner’s lessons are available for all ages, and we range from 55 to nearly 90. This exemplifies the variation in talents and enthusiasm - and new people are continually bringing fresh talent and fresh enthusiasm. If they have no interest in tennis or are physically incapable of play, they can be a social member allowing participation in all club activities except those of leadership.
Aside from the many privately arranged games played within Roadhaven, there are organized competitive team matches and tournaments with other park teams as part of the East Valley Senior Tournament League. Each league team has its own Captain. League play includes one match and one practice session a week.
There are 6 proficiency levels: 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. The 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 teams are split, each having a White and a Blue team. All teams at each level have a Captain that arranges the weekly competition with other resorts. Be assured, every level, including the lowest, has its joy and satisfaction.
The club has popular social activities throughout the season. Major events are the two “Welcome Back” parties. Also, everyone looks forward to the mid-winter dress-up Christmas Ball. And of course, we must have an “End of the Season” dance, and there’s more.
The season is filled with warm comradeship, organized and unorganized dinners, dances, travel, etc. They have recently cruised through the Caribbean, along the western shore of Mexico, made RV trips and even toured thousands of miles of wild Africa. These events show the adventuresome and youthful spirit that’s so prevalent.
Whether a beginner or a seasoned player, bring a tennis racquet with some enthusiasm and join us in this great game. It’s not only fun but it keeps you in shape, whatever your age or become a social member and enjoy your many new friends.
