WiFi Update - December 3, 2011

We have successfully switched the Roadhaven East, North, West and South WiFi zones from Mediacom Service to Century Link. It’s early yet, but we hope this change will enable more consistent service on a daily basis.

We have two ticket choices this year; you may purchase a $15 monthly ticket or a $40 Seasonal ticket that will take you through the entire year. Of course we STRONGLY suggest you take advantage of the 1-hour free service before purchasing a ticket. Simply connect to the Roadhaven location with the strongest signal, open your browser window, and when prompted for a ticket, go below the ticket box and select the 1-Hour free service option. You will have 1 hour of access to test the service. The WiFi service is better in some locations than others, it’s always best to test the service before purchasing a ticket.

Since many homes have more than on WiFi enabled device, we have changed the policy to allow up to 4-tickets per household. Each wireless adapter requires a separate ticket. That is, if you have two laptops, 1 smart phone, and 1 pad device with WiFi, you will need 4 tickets, one for each device. If you have private service at home, you may want to purchase a ticket to enable you to receive service at various points within the park like the Restaurant or pool. If you felt like having a cup of coffee at the restaurant, you could take your laptop with you and read/respond to emails; $40 for the season is quite a bargain.

As more people arrive for the season we will see an increase of Radio Frequency or RF noise in the park. This noise will affect the quality of service presented by our parks WiFi. This is caused by the high number of residents that have installed private high speed internet service with wireless access points built into their modem. IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE RADIO OR WIFI SERVICE OF YOUR MODEM, YOU CAN HELP THE PARK BY REMOVING THE ANTENNA ON YOUR MODEM, or if you know how, disabling the radio on the device. It will not alter or change the internet service you receive unless you rely on the radio signal for personal WIFI. You will be doing your part to reduce the amount of noise which is slowing down our park WiFi.

If the service degrades at your home, you may need to move closer to the signal source, which may mean sitting on your patio outside or going to the restaurant or pool area for access. There is nothing we can do about the number of residents that choose to purchase private service. We now have over 200 private WiFi networks inside the walls of Roadhaven.

Stay tuned for more information. When changes or news on the parks WiFi occur they will also be posted on the roadhaven.com website.
